Plants that help remove toxicity from your environment
It is that time of the year when most of us are constantly examining the air quality. Soon there will be smog and criticisms about the AQI (Air Quality Index) being on the rise and of course, the sale of air purifiers will shoot up. Little do we know that apart from the polluted particles that originate from a car or the smoke from a cigarette, there are common pollutants inside our houses too which are the remains from the various products that we use like plastic, polishing liquids, radiators, etc. And hence, maintaining the air quality inside the house not just in the winter months but all year round is much more important than we can imagine.
How about we tell you that some indoor plants can remove toxic chemicals like Benzene, Formaldehyde, Ammonia, etc. from the air we breathe? Yes, plants! It is that simple. The same capabilities are possessed by the microorganisms that grow in the pots of these plants too; therefore, in addition to cleaning the air, they make the air cooler. You would be surprised that NASA has investigated this subject at length and shares the judgments along with the plants’ names and qualities in detail.
Here are some plants that can help you lead a better life-
Palm Trees
These are the opposite of maintenance. Palm trees reduce Formaldehyde, Benzene, Carbon Monoxide, and even Chloroform from the space and at the same time infuse moisture in the air. Keep them in your balcony or at a reading niche inside the house. Palms are the decorators’ favorite too since they add so much life to your environment.
English Ivy-
These conifer climbers are almost created to be kept indoors. However, there are many types of this plant and when you buy, you must agree with the care each one needs. You can either let it climb on the gallery walls where the light is not too bright or inside on hanging little pots. They require very little water & that too often during winter.
Rubber Plants-
One of the best plants to remove Trichloroethylene and Carbon Monoxide from the air in our environment, the good old rubber plant needs only a little care every now and then and manages to remove all the toxicity from the air. Keep them anywhere that has infiltrated sunlight that is not too bright. You may want to clean the leaves frequently to keep them shiny.
Peace Lily-
Many scientists as well the department of NASA have found that this is amongst the top 3 plants that can remove in-house toxins, even Ammonia. Peace Lily loves bright sunshine and requires humid soil at all times. With just a bit of interest, you will be mesmerized with the blossom of the flowers looking divine!
Boston Fern-
A common at most of our childhood homes, Ferns are said to kill Formaldehyde from the environment more than any other plant. Nevertheless, they can be a bit difficult to manage as they require extra care depending on the moisture degree at your home.
